Sing the title to It's a Small World and it will stick with you I promise! :) It is so hard to believe that we are already at the 100th day of school. The kids are really enjoying our 100 day activities. Wait until you see our portraits at 100 years old!!
We are starting our last week of our sight word activities. We will be working on word chunks starting next week. Please continue to practice reading and spelling those word cards at home as you will be seeing those words on our upcoming spelling tests.
We are starting Gumball Math this week. Gumball math will be done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The students will be given 3 minutes to complete 50 problems. Once they pass test 1 at 100% they will move on to test 2. Test 1 and test 2 are addition to 5. Test 3 and test 4 are subtraction from 5. Test 5 and test 6 are addition to 10. Test 7 and test 8 are subtraction from 10. Test 9 is addition to 18 and test 10 is subtraction from 18. Each time they pass a test they will be given a gumball to stick on their gumball machine in the hallway and a gumball to eat. Please work on those math facts at home!
Our story this week is called Yasmin's Ducks. We will be working on the long o sound, the -ed inflectional ending, and we will be reviewing cause and effect.
We will be finishing up our math unit this week and will be taking our math test on Friday.
Groundhog's Day on Thursday will bring some prediction and weather activities.
Just a reminder...Adventure club on Thursday.
Have a great week!

It's the final countdown....
Good Tuesday morning! The phone call yesterday morning came as a very welcome surprise at my house. I was contemplating whether or not to get a sub as I was fighting off a "gift" from my youngest who had "the yuck" the week before. I am still coughing (not as much and a good ab workout) and blowing my nose (somewhat normal for my allergy self) but I am feeling human again, unlike a few days ago.
On to this week... We have been counting down to the 100th day of school, and we are VERY close. Friday was to be the day, but then yesterday happened. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the 100th day of school is now scheduled for Monday. We have a lot of fun things planned for that day, but those will have to wait until next week.
This week we are taking a unit test in reading and starting a new story called The Shopping List. We will be working on the long i sound, cause and effect, and adding inflectional endings (-s and -es) to words.
In math we will be working on number stories, turn around facts (5+4 and 4+5), and +0 and +1 fact patterns.
We are still plugging away with our introductory spelling pages, and we will introduce the week 9 sight words today.
We will continue with our centers this week. They will focus on math games and contractions.
Have a good week and stay healthy!!

Good morning!
Happy Tuesday! Here is the rundown of our week:
We will start working out of our spelling book this week. We will spend the first week doing pages that get us thinking and used to using the workbook. We will dive in to the "meat" of the subject after that. You will not see these workbooks come home. You will see some parent letters come home at the end of the unit. More on that later...
We are starting sight word week 8. The lightning word sheets and the word cards will be coming home today.
In math we will be exploring area and weight. We will continue our work on greater than and less than, and I will introduce number stories that involve finding differences.
Our reading story this week is called "Let's Camp Out." It's the perfect weather for a camping story don't you think???? We will be reviewing contractions, working on vocabulary and comprehension, and talking about possessives.
We are continuing with centers this week. These are fast becoming a class favorite. Some of our centers will continue our work on contractions and will reinforce what we are doing in math. I will be working with the reading groups this week (now that we have an idea of how centers are supposed to run) and we will be working hard on increasing our fluency and comprehension skills.
Next week.....Gumball Math!!
Have a terrific week!

Ugh!!
Hello Parents!
I know that I promised to have the blog updated by Monday evening but I have run into a "little" issue at my house. My little one has strep throat and double ear infection. She is beyond miserable, and I haven't had a chance to get to school to use my plans to update you on our upcoming week (mental note to self - bring plans home on Friday... live and learn). Thanks to Grandma I will be in school tomorrow knowing that she is in the best of hands! I will update you on what is going on in our classroom while at school tomorrow (barring any unforeseen issues!!).
Thank you for your patience and understanding!!

Center Activities
Welcome!
Our blog is officially up and running! Thank you for taking time to "check it out" and see what will be happening in our classroom this week.
The new technology that I spoke of in the last blog is up and running. We are using the interactive whiteboard as part of our center rotation. The students are LOVING it!! More on centers in a bit...
We are on sight word week 7 this week. Please continue to practice reading and spelling those words as we will be taking a spelling test on Friday.
We will be finishing up handwriting this week. Spelling will be taking it's place starting next week.
In math, we will be starting a new chapter today. We will be working on making exchanges (borrowing), place value, and greater than/less than this week.
Our reading story this week is a nonfiction piece called Snakes. We will be reading lots of stories about snakes, talking about our vocabulary words (where, why, know, under), learning about long a sounds, and reviewing contractions.
We will be finishing up the book Pippi Longstocking this week and we will celebrate by watching the movie on Friday. We will be having a discussion about how the book and the movie are the same and how they are different.
Our class has started working on centers this week. I will be working with small groups during center time. This will allow me to give those kids that need it a little extra help, and challenge those kids who need to be challenged. The students are pretty excited about it, especially since they get to use the interactive whiteboard, computers, and iPads!
Please remember that there is no school next Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will be reading about Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday of this week.
Have a great week!!
