Welcome March!!

I appologize for not posting to the blog last week.  The short week the week before really threw us off and we spent the majority of the week catching up.  We took our unit test in reading.  You will be seeing those coming home within the next few days.  We also took a unit test in math.  Mrs. Elgin came in and talked to us about dental heath and we did a lot of Dr. Suess reading in order to celebrate his birthday.  You may have heard that we had green eggs and ham for our afternoon snack on Friday.  We graphed whether or not the class enjoyed them and we all voted with a smiley face!!

This week we are continuing to work on spelling, and we will be taking a cloze story test and a sentence dictation test on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In phonics we are continuing our word chunk study and this week we are working on now (-ow), ten (-en), and trade (-ade).

We are working on some geometry this week.  We sorted shapes and talked about attributes today.  We will also be reading a book about triangles, identifying shapes, and constructing polygons.

Our story in reading this week will be The Seven Sillies.  Our vocabulary words for the week will be four, many, so, over, and all.  We will be talking about the long e sound spelled e and ee.  We will also begin talking about adjectives and continue talking about inflectional endings (-ing).

We took a break from centers to focus on Dr. Suess, so we will be back in full swing with those this week as well.

Just a reminder that the end of the quarter is this week.  I will be sending home report cards next week.  We will have a 1/2 day of school on the 22nd and no school on the 23rd due to parent teacher conferences.  If you didn't get a note from me telling you that I would like you to schedule a conference, you don't need to worry about signing up .  If you would still like to talk to me though you can fill out the form that is on the school website and return it to school.

Have a great week!
