As you may have heard, we are learning a few Spanish phrases in first grade. We are also learning how to count (we have made it to 30) and everyday in calendar we say "Today is...", "Yesterday was...", and "Tomorrow will be..." in both English and Spanish. We also sing the days of the week using sign language!
Well, we survived the
crazy,
loud, last classroom party of the year! The kids had a fun time. We had a mystery to solve and I believe we have some budding detectives in our bunch! The Sweetheart Snatcher stole our conversation hearts (why he would want them I'm really not sure - Yuck!) and we were sent on a wild goose chase all over the school trying to find them. Rest assured that these first graders were not about to give up, and they found our candy in the gym. As we were reading our clues we were predicting and inferring about where we thought the candy would be. After we found the candy we wrote a short story about our adventures. Those stories are hanging on the front doors of the school right now for the world to see! :)
This week we will be working on a poem about seeds. We will be working on the -eed, -ave, -elt, and -ike word chunks.
In math we will be reviewing "What's My Rule?" problems, counting coins, telling time using digital and analog notations, and learning about our MRB's (My Reference Book).
Our reading story for the week will be a nonfiction Time for Kids piece called Ring! Ring! Ring! We are going to be reviewing the ay/ai sounds, cause and effect, making inferences, and inflectional endings -s and -es.
Instead of centers this week we will be learning about penguins. We will be reading lots of books and making some projects.
Hasta la proxima! (Until the next time)
Mrs. Cahoon
